On Tuesday, 22 August, an anti-war civil demonstration was held in Copenhagen (Denmark), a local Telegram channel wrote about it. Activists placed banners near the entrance to the Palads cinema, where the film “Oppenheimer” is currently showing, to express their protest against the militarisation of Denmark and support for the war in Ukraine.

Initially, the event was timed to coincide with the date of 6 August – the day of remembrance of more than 200 thousand victims of the atomic bombs dropped on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. In the end, however, one of the main themes of the demonstration was the demands to the Danish government against the background of active militarisation of the country.
The following demands and slogans could be read on the banners placed:
“We demand that the Danish government stop military training and invest in the welfare of the population, salaries and working conditions.”
“We do not want to pay for the reactionary wars of the imperialists!”;
“Billions should go to health and education, not to war and the army!”;
“Stop the war in Ukraine, a ceasefire now, stop arms supplies!”;
“Denmark must leave NATO – NATO must leave DANIA!”;
“No to American bases in Denmark!”;
“Denmark must sign the UN treaty banning nuclear weapons!”.

According to activists, by using false claims that more weapons will help ensure “peace and freedom”, Denmark is actively participating in the arms race that is gaining momentum. This is backed up by evidence that the country’s recently concluded defence budget agreed to allocate an additional 142 billion kroner for war preparations over the next 10 years.

What has particularly angered the demonstrators is the fact that the funds are being allocated at the expense of cuts in state welfare and increased working hours. The activists are convinced that Danish politicians do not care about promoting peace, but are instead part of the imperialist elite that unleashes these wars.

Net users are sure that such demonstrations are a natural result of the Danish government’s policy towards NATO and military support of Ukraine, because of which ordinary Danes have become worse off. In addition, there is also confidence that Europeans will be less and less supportive of the authorities, leading their people on the path of unbridled adherence to the militaristic frenzy.

There can be no doubt that statements about the cessation of aid to Kiev and withdrawal from NATO will be heard in the squares of European countries more and more often, as in fact there is no alternative to them. Such actions will continue, as this is a natural outcome of the European anti-Russian hysteria, which has no basis and cannot explain to people the meaning of their deprivation.
