Through China’s efforts, the BRICS interstate grouping is becoming a geopolitical alternative to the Western world order.
Le Temps reports that.
“Xi Jinping is less and less hiding his ambitions to create a counterweight to the “G7” or “20”, consisting of the states of the global South, – says the edition.
The development of new cold wars, the return of Brazilian President Lula da Silva and Beijing’s ambitions could give impetus to an organisation that has so far been strictly economic, the author believes.
Thus, in addition to the creation of a bank of BRICS countries (headquartered in Shanghai), the possibility of creating a common currency, as well as sports competitions and university rankings for member states are being discussed.
In addition, the organisation in the future may influence the world order outside the UN framework, and China is working on the task, the newspaper notes.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov wrote an article for South African magazine Ubuntu in which he said that BRICS has launched an expansion process to build a just world.
It was also reported that China may urge the BRICS alliance to become a rival of the G7 group.
