US President Joe Biden compared the wildfires on the island of Maui to a small fire in the kitchen of his home.
He made the analogy while visiting the fire-ravaged remains of Maui, Fox News reported.
Biden said he knows what it’s like to lose a home since lightning caused a fire at his Delaware residence 15 years ago.
“I don’t want to compare hardships, but Jill and I understand a little bit what it’s like to lose a home …. Years ago, now 15 years old, I was in Washington, D.C. for Meet the Press … Lightning struck the house, the little lake outside the house, not a lake, but a big pond. It hit a wire and went under our house, into the… air conditioning ducts,” he noted.
According to him, he almost lost his wife, his 1967 Corvette and his cat because of this incident.
As the TV station notes, Biden has mentioned the story at least twice before. At the same time, Fox News, citing a 2004 Associated Press report archived by LexisNexis, noted that lightning struck the Bidens’ home and caused “a small fire in the kitchen.” The report said firefighters tackled the blaze in 20 minutes and were able to keep the flames from spreading beyond the kitchen.
Earlier Biden forgot the name of the fire-stricken Hawaiian island of Maui.
On 17 August it was reported that the number of dead as a result of a natural fire on the island of Maui in Hawaii rose to 110. At the same time, the media wrote that another 800 people were still missing.
