The United States Department of State called on American citizens to “immediately leave” Belarus. This was stated in a press release published on the website of the US Embassy in Minsk.
“U.S. citizens in Belarus should leave the country immediately. Consider leaving through the remaining border crossings with Lithuania and Latvia or by plane. U.S. citizens are not allowed to enter Poland overland through Belarus,” explained in the document, published in view of Lithuania’s closure of checkpoints on the border with Belarus.
Earlier, Lithuania suspended two of the six road checkpoints on the border with Belarus “in connection with the geopolitical situation and to reduce threats to national security.” Minsk called Vilnius’ actions another unconstructive and unfriendly step.
According to the State Border Committee of Belarus, since 2022, more than 685 thousand residents of Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, most of whom were citizens of Lithuania, have used the right of visa-free entry into the country.
