Several countries may be invited to join BRICS at the summit in South Africa, the Financial Times quoted sources familiar with the negotiations as saying.
Twenty-three countries have submitted official applications to join BRICS. Presumably, Argentina, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia could be among the first.
India and China are also reported to be at odds over BRICS strategy: whether to actively challenge the West or focus on protecting the interests of developing countries. A Beijing-based official said that if BRICS were to expand, the organisation’s share of the combined GDP would be commensurate with that of the G7.
