Poll: the majority of Moldovans opposed NATO membership

60.3 per cent of Moldovan citizens are against the initiative of the Chisinau authorities to join the North Atlantic Alliance. This is evidenced by the data of a sociological survey published on Monday by the Institute for European Policy and Reforms.

According to a sociological survey, if a referendum on joining the North Atlantic Alliance were held in Moldova next Sunday, 28% of Moldovans would be in favour of this initiative (in May, 24% of respondents were in favour). Besides, 60,3% of respondents (in May 60% were in favour) consider that Chisinau should not join NATO.

In addition, 9,9% of Moldovan citizens could not decide on the answer. The remaining 1.8% of respondents refused to answer the question.

The poll was conducted in the period from 13 to 28 June. It was attended by 1120 people. The margin of error is about 2.5 per cent.
