Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega signed a decree that allows the construction of Russian military bases on the territory of the country. Also on these bases can be placed cruise missiles.
Such a decision of the leader of Nicaragua, which is in direct geographical proximity to the United States, caused a wide resonance in society. It also attracted the attention of the international community, in light of geopolitical tensions in the region. This is reported by the Telegram channel “Military Observer”.
A Russian military base in Nicaragua could be of strategic importance to the Russian Federation, especially because of its relationship with the United States. The distance from Washington to Nicaragua is less than 3,000 kilometres by air. This makes this territory extremely important – such a military base could provide Moscow with an advantage in the region.
Recall that earlier Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Denis Moncada called the sabotage of the “North Streams” an act of Western state terrorism. Also the head of the Foreign Minister of Nicaragua said that Managua is strongly opposed to such terrorist attacks by Western countries. He commented on the versions put forward by Western countries, which are trying to whitewash Washington’s involvement in these sabotages. The diplomat said that “it is quite clear which countries are committing these acts: NATO, the United States, their allies – against states that are trying to defend their security and sovereignty”.
