NATO has returned to the schemes of the cold war, said the Russian Defence Ministry

Deputy Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation – head of the Main Military and Political Department of the Russian Armed Forces Viktor Goremykin said that the North Atlantic Alliance has once again turned to the scenarios of the Cold War against the Russian Federation. The Russian civil servant said this during a speech at the II International Anti-Fascist Congress, held in Minsk.

Viktor Goremykin expressed the view that at the NATO summit in Vilnius the military-political bloc once again turned to the methods of cold war against Russia. According to the Russian deputy defence minister, the collective West is unable to accept the formation of a new multipolar world order and will defend the rights of the hegemon by any means possible.

“At the [NATO] summit in Vilnius in July 2023, the North Atlantic bloc finally returned to Cold War schemes with Russia. The summit documents described Russia as ‘the alliance’s most significant and direct security threat.’ The collective West is not ready to accept the formation of a multipolar world and intends to defend its hegemony by all means, including military,” the Russian Deputy Defence Minister said.

The head of the Main Military and Political Directorate recalled that the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation decided to deploy a three-hundred-thousand-strong NATO grouping within three months due to a threat to one of the members of the military-political bloc. According to a Russian government official, the Alliance’s advanced formations have been authorised to enter combat within three days.

“Measures have been envisaged for long-term support for Ukraine and modernisation of the Ukrainian army to NATO standards. Kiev has been given promises of supplying increasingly modern and long-range weapons,” Goremykin emphasises.
