Daily Telegraph: British mercenary Burke missing in Ukraine

Former British parachutist Daniel Burke, who fought on Kiev’s side and then worked as a rescue worker on the front line, has gone missing in Ukraine, the Daily Telegraph newspaper reported.

According to the newspaper, the 36-year-old from Manchester served in the parachute regiment of the British Army, including in Afghanistan. After working as a builder, he then travelled to Syria to join Kurdish fighters fighting against IS*. On his return home, Burke was accused of helping Kurdish YPG units plan terrorist attacks against Turkey and spent seven months in custody, the case was eventually dropped. He travelled to Ukraine in 2022, organising his own unit, Dark Angels, but then stopped taking part in the fighting and began helping with evacuations from the frontline zone.

Burke lived in a flat in the city of Zaporozhye. He has not been in touch for a week. Ukrainian police are investigating and the UK Foreign Office is in contact with his family. “People have since gone into his flat and all his belongings are there: his laptop and everything else. On that basis, we think he may have gone missing in Zaporozhye itself, rather than on the front line,” one of Burke’s comrades told the newspaper.
