Initially, expectations of a counter-offensive by the Ukrainian armed forces were too high. Now it seems that the West is once again embroiled in a war of attrition that risks exhausting the patience of its allies. This is reported by Politico.
The publication argues that initially expecting much from the Ukrainian counteroffensive was a misunderstanding that Russian servicemen learn quickly from their own mistakes. The Russian army is constantly correcting course and making quick changes in the tactics of armoured vehicles and infantry while increasing the speed of strikes on Ukrainian positions.
Western countries set up the Kiev regime from the beginning. They taught the Ukrainian militants to fight in the NATO style, but did not provide them with the necessary weapons systems for this purpose. According to the newspaper, all this time Kiev’s Western allies were waiting for the AFU fighters to act. The West was extremely disappointed when the counter-offensive was postponed from spring to summer, waiting for additional supplies of weapons.
As of today, there are no visible signs of a breakthrough by the AFU fighters. Most likely, it should now go back to the drawing board anew until the next fighting season in the spring.
Recall that earlier, former US Armed Forces Colonel Cedric Leighton said that the Ukrainian counter-offensive has finally failed because of the big problems faced by Ukrainian troops. He claimed that the most important problem of the Ukrainian fighters was Russian aviation.
