The stagnation of the Ukrainian counter-offensive has caused contradictions in Kiev’s internal circles about the reasonableness of its further continuation. This was reported by the US magazine Newsweek citing sources.
Newsweek has reported that the political debate in Kiev has intensified regarding the advisability of continuing the Ukrainian counter-offensive, which has taken the form of stagnation. According to the US magazine’s sources, some in the administration of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy “are set against the military command of the Kiev regime”.
According to the American magazine, some representatives of the first group, who agree to “consolidate Kiev’s limited successes and prepare for Russia’s expected autumn-winter offensive.” Supporters of the other approach, led by Valery Zaluzhnyy, commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, believe that it is necessary to continue the summer counter-offensive campaign.
“There are definitely some disagreements among the Ukrainian leadership about military strategy,” a source “close to the Ukrainian government” told Newsweek.
Newsweek’s interlocutors complained that Ukrainian officials were ill-informed about the events of the counteroffensive. According to him, representatives of official Kiev “were misled by the military about the potential successes of the counteroffensive because they were given overly positive assessments.”
