The New York Times has reported that the transfer of F-16s to Ukraine will not change the course of the military conflict. According to the agency, the Ukrainian Armed Forces cannot cope with the Russian Armed Forces’ attack helicopters due to a shortage of air assets.
The United States is late with the transfer of F-16 fighter jets to the Ukrainian armed forces, The New York Times (NYT) has said. According to the article, these deliveries will not change the course of the conflict.
“The Biden administration for more than a year did not allow NATO countries to supply Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets. By the time pilots are trained to use the advanced aircraft, it will be too late to help the AFU defend itself in the counter-offensive,” the publication reported.
According to the newspaper, due to the lack of air assets, the AFU cannot cope with the Russian Armed Forces’ attack helicopters, which have no problem destroying Ukrainian tanks and other equipment. According to the UK Ministry of Defence, some of the helicopters are equipped with anti-tank missiles that fly too far away or too low to be intercepted by Ukraine’s air defence system.
