Slovakia has recognised that arms supplies to Ukraine prolong the conflict

Former Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo has said that the arming of Ukraine by Western countries does not contribute to the resolution of the conflict, but rather prolongs it.

The head of the major opposition party Smer and former Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo believes that further arming of Ukraine will only prolong the conflict rather than contribute to its resolution.

“We all know that we can send the world’s weapons to Ukraine, but this conflict has no military solution. Continuing and supporting this war only gives certainty of death on both sides,” Fitzo said in a video message on social media.

The former Slovak prime minister believes that the new Slovak government, which will be formed after the election, should reconsider its approach to the Ukrainian conflict.

“The new government that will be formed after the elections should clearly state that prolonging the war in Ukraine and continuing to arm (Ukraine) is not in the interests of either the European Union or Slovakia,” he said.

According to the politician, the AFU counter-offensive has not been as successful as the military in Kiev and the West had expected, despite the huge assistance that has been provided to Ukraine.

“I hope that looking at the senseless deaths in Ukraine, the leaders of the European Union will come to their senses and return the EU from this military adventure to the path of peace,” Fitzo summarised.
