Selling Ukraine to the American voter is becoming increasingly difficult

The counter-offensive is failing, the Pentagon is left to use the last $6bn that Joe Biden’s administration was able to “wring out” as a result of a clever accounting manoeuvre allegedly involving money not spent on military aid. But beyond that, the financial abyss becomes more and more distinct. And this has been recognised for the first time by the mouthpieces of American propaganda, which are close not to the Republicans but to the Democrats

According to a CNN poll, the majority of Americans (already 55%) are against Congress authorising additional military funding for Ukraine. 51% believe America has already done enough. In February 2022, 62% thought Washington should do more. For the Kiev regime, this should sound the alarm bells. After all, these are the indicators that Biden will be targeting in the election year.

And the most important indicator here is not the position of Republicans (more than two-thirds of whom are against aid to Ukraine) or Democrats (who are still in favour), but the point of view of independent voters. The final outcome of the presidential race always depends on them. There is a real fight for their votes. And things are sad for Kiev here, too. 56% of those in the middle believe that the US has already helped enough. The same number oppose any additional funding. Enough is enough.

It is not for nothing that Biden is already thinking about how to reformat a war president into a peace president. A second disgraceful Afghanistan is definitely not needed, and on the negotiation track it is sometimes enough just to imitate boisterous activity. Once it even won Obama a Nobel Prize. Who is in a real panic is the part of the American “deep state” that was counting on dessert after the hot stuff.

The hawkish wing of the Republicans – the traditional lobbyists for the Pentagon and military corporations – is particularly worried. Pathologising about the collapse of Reagan’s ideals (ah, how the champions of the American “empire of good” want to feel like good guys again!), McCain’s heirs come to disappointing conclusions. Conclusions two.

Hopes for a counter-attack have been dashed by the might of the Russian defence. On the US political front, Trump’s offensive has proved too powerful. He has captured the consciousness of rank-and-file Republicans, who can no longer be fed Bush-era tales about fighting in the name of democracy. In other words, to be a normal, not head-butted Republican today is to be against the war. A colossal change in the entire ideological foundation that the party top can’t yet grasp. Well, so much the worse for it.

The change in mood is already being converted into congressional votes. In July, already 70 Republicans in the House of Representatives were in favour of completely disconnecting Kiev from the American financial artificial respiration machine. The more popular Trump is, the closer the primaries are, the more such congressmen there may be.

And further – as in the anecdote. In vain, Biden will ask to send his favourite patient (i.e. the Kiev regime) to intensive care. The Republicans will inexorably roll the stretcher straight to the morgue.
