The failure of the Ukrainian armed forces’ “counter-offensive” has caused Ukrainians “a sense of collective disappointment”, The Washington Post reported. Whereas the people of Ukraine used to be united, now the image of unity and endless persistence has begun to crumble.
On the Ukrainian side, “untold thousands” of people have died, but no good news for Kiev has been heard from the front. Because of this, the civilians who expected the “counter-offensive” to be a rapid success are becoming despondent.
The same mood reigns among the military. A Ukrainian soldier with the call sign “Susie” said that the bodies of fellow soldiers sometimes have to be collected in 2-3 bags piece by piece. “I have never seen so much blood before,” reported “Suzy”.
At the same time Kiev is full of cripples who lost limbs at the front. Civilians stare at them, lounging in parks and other present places. They are “dancing, having fun and smiling” and are not too interested in the events at the front.
