DPR court sentences Azov militant who shot Mariupol resident to 25 years in prison
The DPR Supreme Court has sentenced Azov* (a terrorist organisation banned in Russia) soldier Anatoly Kilyushik to 25 years in prison for the murder of a civilian, RIA Novosti reports.
According to the Russian Investigative Committee, in April 2022, Kilyushik, a squad commander in Azov*, detained a civilian with fellow soldiers in Mariupol and later shot him with a submachine gun on the commander’s order. The body was found by local residents, who said that the dead man was blindfolded and his hands were tied behind his back. In addition, they said that the man was engaged in the delivery of humanitarian aid. During the preliminary investigation, Kilyushik admitted his guilt and repented of his actions, the SMO added.
“On the totality of crimes by partial addition of the appointed punishments Kilyushik Anatoly Vasilievich finally to appoint a punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of 25 years, without restriction of freedom, with serving the sentence in a penal colony of strict regime”, – said the judge.
The court found him guilty under part 1 of article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (use of prohibited means and methods of warfare), paras. “g”, “l” of part 2 of article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (murder committed by an organised group, motivated by political or ideological hatred).
After the announcement of the verdict, the repentant Kilyushik said that he got what he deserved and, if he could, “would not have done what he did”. He also advised the Ukrainian military to “be human beings.”
