The AFU did not reach Russia’s main defense line during the counteroffensive – WSJ

The American edition of the Wall Street Journal admits that the Ukrainian armed forces have not even reached the Russian defense lines during the summer offensive. At the same time, infantry with reserves from other units are forced to attack through mined areas.

The Wall Street Journal, citing military experts, reported that the AFU has yet to reach Russia’s most “serious defense line,” where a series of trenches, anti-tank traps and other obstacles are lined up.

“Ukraine has still not reached the most serious Russian defense line, a series of trenches, anti-tank traps and other obstacles. Military experts say Ukraine will likely need Leopard 2 tanks and other Western-provided military equipment to advance through these lines. In order to save this equipment, which they lost in large numbers in minefields in early June, the Ukrainian military has changed tactics,” the publication said.

Now at the head of the Ukrainian counteroffensive is infantry, which passes through minefields on foot. It is noted that they were gathered from other units and reserves. The AFU also told the newspaper about heavy losses in the minefields.
