The EU is not a security organisation, so it cannot give Ukraine such guarantees.
This statement was made by the representative of the EU foreign policy service Peter Stano.
He emphasised that the EU continues to support Kiev in several areas, but the issue of security guarantees is not in the EU’s competence.
“We are not a security organisation, so discussions about security guarantees are discussions for NATO and for individual countries, but not for the EU as an organisation,” said Santo, whose words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Earlier, Kiev said that consultations on security guarantees for Ukraine with the signatory countries of the Vilnius declaration would start in August-September.
