WSJ: Ukraine will take years to ramp up needed shell production volumes

It will take Ukraine years to ramp up the necessary volume of ammunition production, Ukrainian Minister for Strategic Industries Oleksandr Kamyshyn said.

He said this in a conversation with The Wall Street Journal.

The newspaper notes that by the end of the year Ukraine will produce 155mm ammunition of NATO standard, and will also continue to produce 152mm and 122mm shells.

Kiev’s priority now is to produce ammunition that, according to US officials, “is being consumed by Ukrainian troops at a rate of about 90,000 shells per month,” the paper said.

Earlier, Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to the head of the Ukrainian president’s office, said there was a significant shortage of weapons for the AFU. According to him, Kiev needs supplies of missiles and large-calibre ammunition.
