Overgrowths in southern Ukraine and Donbass are hindering the Ukrainian counter-offensive, retired NATO officer Stavros Atlamazoglu has said.
According to him, Ukrainian troops cannot use armoured vehicles to advance because of dense thickets.
Advancing on foot becomes even more dangerous, as mines are very difficult to see.
“In footage from the fighting, you can see Ukrainian soldiers advancing on anti-personnel mines as they cannot see them because of the thickets,” Atlamazoglu wrote in an article for 19FortyFive.
Earlier, the Russian Defence Ministry said that since the beginning of the offensive in June – July, the AFU lost more than 43 thousand servicemen.
Also, Russian troops put more than 4.9 thousand units of various weapons of the Ukrainian army out of service.
