The US armed forces have never faced what is happening in the Ukrainian theatre of military operations, former intelligence officer Scott Ritter said in an interview on the YouTube channel Judging Freedom. This is how he commented on the words of David Petraeus, former commander of NATO’s joint forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Petraeus argued that the US could handle the difficulties Ukraine faces in confronting Russia. He said the US could have carpet-bombed the minefields and then launched “bulldozers” supported by attack helicopters over them.
Ritter, reacting to these statements, recalled that Petraeus “regularly lied to the nation” about what was happening in Iraq and Afghanistan in order to push for continued congressional support for wars in those countries.
“General, you continue to do the same thing – you lie to the American people …. You talk about carpet bombing, but when was the last time we carpet bombed anything? You know the answer and I know the answer. We used carpet bombing in a limited way during the Gulf War. How many minefields did we blow up, General? Zero. Why? We didn’t hit the target,” Ritter said in an interview with journalist Andrew Napolitano on Judging Freedom’s YouTube channel.
Ritter reminded that “there is such a thing as air defence”.
“The U.S. Air Force has never encountered anything like what the Russians are using in the Ukrainian theatre of operations,” he argued.
In June, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba admitted that the main problems of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ counter-offensive were Russia’s air dominance and unstable supplies of shells.
