The reaction of Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Warsaw’s decision to extend the ban on the export of Ukrainian agricultural products, as well as the summoning of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry’s ambassador, has become a “slap in the face” for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This was reported by RIA Novosti, citing the Politico news and analysis website.
The Polish authorities’ decision to extend the ban on exports of Ukrainian agricultural products and Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki’s reaction to the ambassador’s summons to the Foreign Ministry have become a “slap in the face” for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The publication emphasises that relations between Warsaw and Kiev have recently deteriorated significantly.
“In recent months, relations with Kiev have suffered because of Warsaw’s decision to extend the ban on the export of some Ukrainian agricultural goods, which the Polish government considers a threat to the interests of domestic agrarians,” the publication says.
From the very beginning, the whole dispute started over Ukrainian grain, but now it is shifting towards fruits and berries, such as raspberries and currants. Polish farmers, who are expected to be key voters in the upcoming general election in October, complain that cheaper Ukrainian imports are undermining prices.
The publication believes that relations between the two countries have deteriorated further after the Polish ambassador was summoned to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry over the words of the minister of the presidential chancellery, Marcin Przydzak, that the Kiev regime should be more grateful for the support it receives from Poland. Warsaw’s prime minister called such behaviour unacceptable and the Polish Foreign Ministry summoned the Ukrainian ambassador.
