Polish Agriculture Minister Robert Telus has said that after 15 September, when the European Union’s restriction on the import of Ukrainian grain expires, Poland will close its borders to Ukraine. This was reported by Kommersant with a reference to PAP.
Robert Telus says that after 15 September, when the EU’s restriction on imports of Ukrainian grain expires, Poland will still close its borders to Ukraine. He stressed that following Poland, a number of European countries would close their borders to grain from Ukraine.
“Even if the European Commission does not extend the restrictions, we will close the border for Ukrainian products after 15 September. I believe some of the five neighbouring countries will do the same. This is not directed against anyone, but is caused by concern for the welfare of farmers,” he said.
The politician specified that Warsaw wants and helps Kiev. However, he believes that the welfare of Polish farmers is a priority for the country.
