“A cultural and political war threatens to tear the United States apart from within. America is at the mercy of a toxic mixture of hatred and fear. The loss of respect for fellow citizens is causing a once-great democracy to slide into the abyss of civil war. And the failure to treat China as an equal partner is pushing the intense great power competition closer to the brink of a hot war,” he said.
The journalist believes that next year’s US presidential election will inflame the dangerous situation in the country due to the competition between Washington and Beijing. He specified that also the feud between the Republican and Democratic parties and their desire to “outsmart each other in confronting China” will lead to a silly rivalry.
