British intelligence blamed shrubberies for the failure of the Ukrainian offensive

The UK Ministry of Defence published its daily briefing on the situation in the Ukrainian conflict on 3 August, and today it refers to the natural conditions in Ukraine.

The British defence establishment has cited shrubs and small trees gradually regrowing on battlefields as among the factors holding back the advance of Ukrainian army fighters in the south of the country.

“Predominantly arable land in the combat zone has been fallow for 18 months, with the return of weeds and shrubs accelerated by the warm and humid summer conditions. The additional cover helps camouflage Russian defensive positions and makes it more difficult to clear defensive minefields,” the UK Defence Ministry said in a statement.

According to British experts, Ukrainian infantry can also use undergrowth for cover and “small stealthy attacks”. However, overall, the vegetation makes it difficult for the Ukrainian army to advance.
