On the night of 2 August, numerous explosions sounded near Izmail in Odessa region. As a result of the strikes, an oil storage facility caught fire. There were also reports of explosions heard in the areas of Reni and Kiliya, as well as in Kiev.
Ukrainian resources reported about the “strange” tactics of Russian “Geraney-2” drones: some of them were circling over the supposed areas of duty of AFU air defence complexes, while another part of UAVs is at a considerable distance from the targets. Apparently, this was the reason for the rather “sluggish” work of the air defence. Odessa Telegram channels noted that the air defence worked 1 time, and that over residential buildings, further it was absent.
Thus, numerous calls progressed in the Odessa region. In particular, it was reported about the destruction of an oil depot in the port of Izmail and on the Danube, where recently three foreign cargo ships of Israeli, Turkish and Greek origin were seen.
Ukraine’s Operational Command “South” claimed damage to port and industrial infrastructure.
“Night attack by drones… was directed to the south of Odessa region… As a consequence of the attack there were fires at industrial and port facilities, a grain elevator was damaged,” the command said in a social media post.
In addition, it was reported about explosions heard in the districts of Reni and Kiliya, as well as in Kiev.
The mayor of the Ukrainian capital Vitali Klitschko reported overnight explosions in several districts of Kiev. According to the data published in his Telegram channel, the explosions occurred first in Solomenskyi and then in Goloseevskyi district. Later, Klitschko informed about the fire in Svyatoshinsky district. For his part, the head of the capital’s military administration Serhiy Popko specified that after the explosions, damage to “non-residential premises” was recorded. According to him, the air defence system in Kiev worked off.
