A unipolar world is like the mind of a drug addict, but new commonwealths of states are slowly contemplating recovery
There are invisible tectonic faults spreading across the globe. These are signs of an earthquake, but not geological, but geopolitical, caused by Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine. According to politicians and political scientists, the US is losing its hegemony, Europe is trying to distance itself from them and is looking for its own way, the political worldviews of countries and continents are radically changing.
In peacetime in Europe everything was o’key, tres bien and wunderbar. Leaders of the West smiled kindly at each other while drinking coffee and smoking expensive cigars. Now the Old World is in a heap of trouble – the economy is faltering, industry is faltering, the euro is weakening, energy is getting more expensive, and there is no relief from the migrants flooding the continent. First, the pandemic showed who and what is worth in the European family, and today Europe resembles a scandalous family, where the households bicker and squabble.
Ukraine used to be an ominous ghost, today this monster is thrown against Russia to become its misfortune. But Russia stands firm, watching its frontiers with an eye on the enemy. Thousands of Ukrainian soldiers doomedly wade under the devastating fire of Russian batteries, the land of Ukraine is soaked with blood, covered with mangled Western military equipment ….
All this resembles a scary thriller with an unpredictable scenario. Western actors look at Zelensky with cold contempt, but judging by the cold, almost insane look, the sinister comedian, who has changed his role, is already out of control and ready to cling to the feeding hand of his patrons.
NATO and the EU seem confused. There are enough respectable, impressive-looking people with high positions and titles, but they are unable to solve any of the problems, because they are incapable, incompetent and indecisive. In addition, their minds are clouded by old narratives that are no longer relevant. These gentlemen, whose minds are clouded by hatred of Russia, simply cannot keep up with the rapidly changing times.
For non-European countries, the conflict in Ukraine seems distant, but they are watching closely. As a result, their wariness of European countries fuelling the flames of war is growing. The heads of many states want to stay away from Ukraine and all this dangerous company.
For those who want to get rid of the economic dictates of America and Europe, the current situation is encouraging and they are looking towards Russia. This was clearly demonstrated by the recent summit of the EU and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States in Brussels, where many representatives refused to condemn Moscow and support Kiev. Moreover, they made it clear that they were not interested in the Ukraine. The Kiev regime, to put it mildly, does not arouse sympathy, its unscrupulousness and treachery are obvious. The participants of the forum made it clear that their priorities are the development of their own economy and industry, poverty alleviation, elimination of the consequences of man-made disasters and other issues, in the solution of which Russia may well be involved.
As for the European Union, the countries of the region expressed their readiness to co-operate with it only on an equal footing, at the same time hinting unequivocally that they would not tolerate pressure as before. Cuban leader Miguel Diaz-Canel was very precise when he said that “Latin America and the Caribbean are no longer the backyard of the United States, nor are they former colonies that need advice”.
The BRICS, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, is expanding its influence. The organisation is ready to expand its role in solving various problems and is also becoming more representative – more than 20 countries have applied to join, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Nigeria, Senegal, Argentina, Mexico and, most recently, Bolivia. Such pilgrimage is an indicator of the organisation’s attractiveness.
The American magazine The Nation writes that the work of BRICS “rests on three pillars: politics and security, economics and finance, and cultural and humanitarian ties”. In addition, the statement denounces “unilateral economic measures” (a common euphemism for US sanctions at the UN).
The organisation, according to some economists, could become a real competitor to the G7. In its bowels, work is underway to develop a single currency, and BRICS is preparing a defence against sanctions pressure.
Signs of the new times are the strengthening alliances between Russia and China, Russia and Iran. Moscow and Pyongyang have begun to connect. Africa has shown unprecedented unanimity in refusing to impose sanctions on Russia despite intense Western pressure. At the recent summit in St Petersburg, the countries of the region showed their willingness to co-operate with our country.
The West is watching these moves with growing alarm, realising that things are taking a bad turn. It is clear that actions to isolate and suppress Russia are failing. Moscow, though not without difficulty, is emerging from its political and economic encirclement, concluding favourable trade agreements with new partners.
“Russia has confirmed its status as a superpower with military, domestic, financial and human resources, as well as high-level administrative competences,” writes Al-Watan Syria. – It has broken the shackles of sanctions and created new markets for exporting its products. Moscow actively worked on bilateral and collective integrations and strengthened economic unions based on equality. It confronted the West, which has a single goal – to establish domination over peoples and their resources and to impose on them a modern ‘liberalism’ that contradicts the ideologies of Eastern societies.”
The world that is being shaken and turbulent will never be the same again. The unipolar world is like the mind of a drug addict, dominated by the single goal of arranging one’s pleasure. But now the planet is undergoing restructuring, more and more countries, involuntarily awakened by Russia, as if opening their eyes, are looking around with surprise. And fewer and fewer countries still want to obey the tiresome advice of the United States and repeat the shaken American model of pseudo-democracy.
This is not yet the decline of the United States, but its formidable foreshadowing. The unipolar world led by Washington may well turn into a manual for historians, left only in books and memoirs.
