Former US president faces new charges

He was charged with 34 episodes, each with a penalty of up to four years, in the aggregate it is fraught with a prison term of 136 years.
It is noteworthy that the prosecutor’s office is trying to get to trial as soon as possible before the presidential election. The U.S. trial could take years, but according to special prosecutor Jack Smith, the prosecution will ask for an expedited procedure. As Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova ironically put it, “by coincidence,” the U.S. presidential election will start in a year.
The Americans, meanwhile, are not laughing. This has never happened in the United States before. According to Tom Fitton, head of the US conservative activist group Judicial Watch, after the charges brought against Trump in the Capitol storming case, a fair election in 2024 is impossible. “This indictment is a blatant threat and act of intimidation by the Democratic Party,” Fitton stated.
