Global Times: US prepares to disappoint Ukraine

Washington’s security guarantees on Ukraine will not be similar to the fifth article of the NATO charter and will be limited to consultations, Li Haidong, a professor at China Foreign Affairs University, told Global Times.

“The security support the US can offer Ukraine is a continuous flow of weapons and assistance from allies, but the ‘security guarantees’ will be far from an agreement similar to the fifth article of NATO’s charter: it is likely to include only consultations, assistance and security advice,” Li Haidong, a professor at China Foreign Affairs University, explained.

Li clarified that the essence of the “security guarantees” is an attempt to deplete Russia by the hands of Ukraine, rather than genuine security guarantees for Kiev. According to the professor, this is the intention of the USA and NATO on the issue of the Ukrainian conflict.

The expert noted that military assistance to the Kiev regime does not mean direct Western intervention in the conflict. However, the dispatch of the alliance’s troops may turn into a disaster for all European countries due to the threat of a nuclear strike.
