Biden asks Congress to pay for weapons to Taiwan from the budget for Ukraine

American President Joe Biden intends to ask Congress to finance arms for Taiwan within the framework of the additional budget for Ukraine. This was reported by the Financial Times newspaper with reference to sources familiar with the situation.

“The White House will ask Congress to fund armaments for Taiwan as part of a supplemental budget request for Ukraine,” the Financial Times writes.

According to the newspaper, the White House’s request is aimed at speeding up arms deliveries to Taiwan amid an allegedly growing threat from Beijing.

According to the newspaper’s sources, the U.S. Office of Management and Budget will include funding for Taiwan in the supplemental request as part of efforts to speed up arms shipments. If passed by Congress, it would be the first time Taiwan would receive weapons through the US taxpayer-funded system, the newspaper noted.

The White House is expected to send the request as early as August.
