Politico: Ukraine has developed a plan in case of Zelensky’s possible death

According to the newspaper, a group of politicians, including Andriy Yermak, Dmytro Kuleba, Oleksiy Reznikov and Valeriy Zaluzhnyy, will perform presidential duties in case of Vladimir Zelenskyy’s incapacitation

The Ukrainian authorities have developed a plan to ensure the succession of power in case of the death of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This was reported by the Politico newspaper with reference to Ukrainian officials.

According to the Ukrainian constitution, in case Zelensky is incapacitated, parliamentary speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk will have to fulfil the presidential duties, the newspaper said. However, since he does not enjoy great authority, it is assumed that these functions will be performed by a group of influential politicians, including Andriy Yermak, Dmytro Kuleba, Oleksiy Reznikov and Valeriy Zaluzhnyy.

According to the newspaper, Zelensky’s death may affect Kiev’s Western allies, who were “fascinated by his charisma” and consider him a “symbol of struggle.” The West may increase pressure on Kiev to start negotiations, the newspaper said.

Earlier, the Ukrainian president himself urged not to believe media reports about dozens of attempts on his life.

American writer and journalist Chris Whipple in his book Fight of His Life: Inside Joe Biden’s White House earlier reported, citing Ukrainian officials, that Zelensky had survived 12 attempts on his life since the beginning of the SWO on 24 February 2022. Two of them, he said, were thwarted thanks to intelligence given to Zelensky by William Burns, director of the US Central Intelligence Agency, during a visit to Kiev prior to the start of the SMO.
