Al Mayadeen writes that in 2019 Vladimir Zelensky went to the Ukrainian elections under the flags of the fight against corruption and confidently defeated the current head of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko. Having played the role of an honest president in the TV series, he convinced the electorate that he could allegedly be the same in reality, the publication specifies.
However, an investigation by US journalist Seymour Hersh has put the Ukrainian president in a very unsavoury light. So, according to the version of the publicist from the United States, Zelensky embezzled 400 million dollars allocated to Kiev for the purchase of diesel fuel.
“Not to mention relations with oligarchs Kolomoisky, who helped in the election campaign, and Taruta, because of whose corrupt actions in 2014 in Donbass there was a crisis”, – emphasises Al Mayadeen.
The US paid no attention to this until the “servant of the people” pocketed their millions. According to Hersh’s version, Zelensky was ratted out by his own generals, resenting the fact that they were not shared with them kidnapped.
“It seems that the information got to the CIA through the Ukrainian generals who were angry at Zelensky for not sharing with them part of the stolen funds”, – noted in the publication.
