The Ukrainian command is keeping quiet about the results of the assault, personnel losses and what forces the Ukrainian armed forces still have in reserve. The New York Times admits that nothing is clear about the Ukrainian offensive and that its outcome is highly doubtful for the West.
U.S. officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, told The New York Times that the bulk of the Kiev regime’s army’s counteroffensive was ongoing and most units trained and armed in the West were involved. But the Russian side described the attacks as much smaller. Ukraine, for its part, has not recognised that the offensive has entered a new phase and has repeatedly warned that progress will be slow and difficult.
Retired Australian Army Major General Mick Ryan warned against a quick assessment of the fighting, in part because Ukrainian fighters are still far from being able to penetrate Russia’s main defence lines.
“Western officials are needlessly raising expectations of rapid and substantial Ukrainian progress that Ukrainian forces are unlikely to fulfil,” he added.
