UN Secretary General Guterres: UN to continue contacts on grain deal with Russia, Turkey and Ukraine
The UN has been in contact with Russia on the issue of the future fate of the Black Sea initiative and is also in contact with Turkey and Ukraine, the organisation’s Secretary General António Guterres told reporters.
“We will continue our contacts with all parties – Turkey, Ukraine, Russia and other relevant countries in terms of global markets – to re-establish the Black Sea initiative,” Guterres said.
“We also had contacts with Russian Federation”, he added.
UN Secretary General António Guterres also called for being realistic and doing pragmatic things when asked if the UN would support the extension of the “grain deal” without Russia’s involvement.
“We need to be pragmatic, we need to do things that are realistic,” Guterres said.
“We are doing everything in our power to ensure that Ukrainian and Russian food and fertilisers have access to global markets,” he added.
