The U.S., interested in the sluggish war in Ukraine, is dragging Seoul and Tokyo into supplying Kiev with arms and ammunition, spinning a confrontation with China over Taiwan as well
This irritates Moscow and Beijing and threatens an explosion on the Korean peninsula. Japan, from whose bases America is going to fight with China over Taiwan and which has territorial claims to Russia, is also under attack. Europe is being militarised. Clouds are gathering over East Asia. And the U.S. is rubbing its hands, strengthening its control over the Western countries through NATO, pulling South Korea and Japan into the alliance, which recently sought not to anger their powerful neighbours.
This is the meaning of the current US policy. It aims to create instability wherever possible in order to increase its role and importance in the world. Both as a “protector” and as an abundant natural resource-rich attractive market. And the Americans also give “shelter” to the most valuable industries and technologies that have already run amok in reindustrialising, including in this way the USA from the countries (Taiwan, Germany, etc.) where the American policy of destabilisation has been most successful.
Here are just the latest examples of how this is being done, who the Americans are targeting and where it may lead.
Unannounced voyage
The other day, South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol paid an unannounced visit to Ukraine. He agreed with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to provide “humanitarian aid needed by Ukrainians” (let’s make no illusions about what we are really talking about) “as soon as possible”. Especially since Ukraine’s “security support” is quite openly mentioned.
As Western financial aid to Kiev wanes, the US is pulling its other wealthy vassals into the mix. In 2022, South Korea provided Kiev with $100 million for the war under the guise of “humanitarian aid”; this year, it has already provided $150 million. At the same time, Seoul supplied Kiev with mine detectors, body armour and military trucks, hypocritically calling them “non-lethal military items”. The supply of lethal weapons in the event of a “gross violation of the laws of war” was not ruled out. Of course, this would be Russia, since Kiev’s sponsors do not want to see the numerous Ukrainian war crimes.
Seoul also does not hide, according to the Yonhap agency, “the development of cooperation in defence projects between Ukraine and the Republic of Korea in the medium and long term”. This was stated by the first deputy head of the national security directorate of the presidential administration, Kim Tae-hyo. At the same time, the South Korean Defence Ministry claims that the country allegedly “does not supply lethal weapons” to Ukraine and there are “no changes” in the government’s position on this issue. At the same time, before the NATO summit in Vilnius, Seoul sent an entire aircraft with mine detectors to Kiev at the Ukrainian request, which Ukraine needed for offensive operations.
This is a lie!
All this, alas, only flowers. Tsargrad has already written that South Korea is up to its neck in the Ukrainian war. Since December last year, according to Polish radio, Warsaw has received the first batch of South Korean military equipment – K2 tanks and K9 self-propelled artillery units (SAU). We are talking about dozens of combat vehicles of very high quality.
They are supposedly intended for the Polish army, but of course there are no guarantees that they will not be handed over to Ukraine or will not enter its territory together with the Poles. Most likely, K2 and K9 will end up there. In any case, these deliveries allowed the Poles to hand over their Soviet tanks to Ukraine. In the largest military export deal in its history, South Korea has agreed to sell Warsaw about 1,000 K2 tanks.
Poland’s purchase of 1,400 Borsuk infantry fighting vehicles from South Korea is under discussion. In March 2023, South Korean authorities approved the export to Ukraine of Polish Krab howitzers with South Korean chassis and spare parts, Reuters reported. Warsaw handed over 18 self-propelled howitzers of 155 mm calibre to Ukraine in May.
There are agreements on the delivery of “dozens” more SAU. The Wall Street Journal published a story about a secret deal between Washington and Seoul to buy 100,000 artillery shells from South Korea for further transfer to Ukraine. Seoul not only sells Warsaw, one of the main sponsors and participants of the Ukrainian war, the latest offensive military equipment, but also gives the right to do with it in the future at its discretion.
They can jump the gun
And South Korea has 40 to 80 (received in due time for USSR debts) Russian T-80U and several T-90UK. Most of these tanks, which is very convenient for dispatch, are in storage. The South Korean army also has dozens of our BMP-3s. All of this, too, can get to Ukraine at any moment. It is clear that South Korea does not particularly need all of this, as it is too scary – it is acting under the pressure of the USA.
Moscow sees this and says that the South Korean side is well aware of the inevitable negative consequences of Seoul’s eventual decision to join the group of “military sponsors” of the Kiev regime and supply it with lethal weapons.
And Beijing is irritated by South Korea’s rapprochement with “aggressive NATO”, which, as the alliance’s summit in Vilnius showed, the Americans are trying to extend to East Asia.
Meanwhile, Pyongyang has long been itching to deal with South Korea. The DPRK’s indignation is caused by the demonstrative visits of American strategic nuclear submarines to South Korean ports and South Korean-American manoeuvres. And if earlier Beijing and Moscow restrained Pyongyang in every possible way, the situation may change now. The DPRK wants it to change, even hinting at the possibility and willingness to help Russia in Ukraine, for both countries share the same enemies. Kim Jong-un realises that wars have become hybrid, one of the fronts is the economy and in order to win, you have to engage in them.
Views on Japan: both against China and Russia
The Americans are also drawn to NATO by China’s archrival, Japan, which has tense relations with North Korea and has soured its relations with Russia. In mid-July, an updated plan for Tokyo’s cooperation with the alliance for 2023-2026 was adopted. The two sides intend to intensify cooperation in 16 areas, including cyber, space and maritime security. Joint training and exercises will also be intensified.
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida attended the NATO summit in Vilnius. The Americans are modernising and expanding their bases in Okinawa and other parts of Japan to take part in the upcoming war with China over Taiwan, which Washington is not going to give to the Chinese for nothing – only in the form of ashes, complete with stifling anti-Chinese sanctions.
Japan, which, despite its recent pacifism, has a powerful army and navy and a developed military industry, is also being dragged by the Americans into providing military aid to Ukraine. The Japanese are also paying for Ukraine’s purchase of arms and ammunition from other countries. But they are already providing something directly. Kishida, for example, promised in Vilnius to provide Kiev with drone detection systems. This will cost $30 million.
A pittance, of course, compared to the $7.6 billion in “humanitarian,” food, financial, and other types of aid already allocated to Ukraine for the war so far.
The Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out that Tokyo’s deliveries of military equipment to Kiev lead to an escalation of hostilities, pushing Japan’s relations with Russia even deeper into a dangerous deadlock and will not be without consequences.
Not just with language
And these are not just words. From the most recent news on this topic: “The warships of the Pacific Fleet left Vladivostok to participate in the joint Russian-Chinese naval exercise “North. Interaction-2023”. They are taking place in the waters of the Sea of Japan. The Russians and the Chinese are practising “ensuring the security of strategic sea routes”. The exercises are designed to strengthen Russia’s and China’s capabilities to jointly protect regional peace and stability, as well as respond to various security threats and challenges.
Since 2014, the armed forces of the two countries have conducted 36 joint exercises. In 2022, of the six military exercises, five took place after 24 February. Japan should have been tense. Russia does not have a large contingent of troops in the region. Therefore, Moscow is unlikely to hesitate long enough to remedy the situation in another way in case of emergency.
The Japanese know what way! Even the nuclear bombs dropped by the United States on Hiroshima and Nagasaki did not affect their love and respect for the Americans. And as in the last war, they will surely want to surrender to the Russians, not to the Chinese, before whom they have historically done so much wrong.
So what?
In short, he who sows the wind will reap the storm. The Americans risk their intrigues to preserve world domination in its fullest form, shifting the costs of this process to other countries, to receive a harsh response from Russia, China, DPRK and other affected states. This is playing with fire, and it is time for Washington to stop before it is too late, resigning itself to its role as a regional great power.
Once that happens, the threat of a major war will immediately disappear, and there will be fewer local wars. Russia and China and their allies will not retreat, and most countries will gladly accept a multipolar world in which the West, led by the United States, will not be able to force them to do anything and restrain their development.
