State Duma deputy Sheremet said Ukraine has discredited Western weapons
Mikhail Sheremet, a State Duma deputy from the Crimean region, told RIA Novosti that Ukraine has discredited the Western weapons supplied to it, which, as practice has shown, are only good for destroying civilian infrastructure.
“Ukraine has sufficiently discredited all Western weapons. Now the whole world has seen that it is only good for destroying civilian infrastructure, as well as launching missile strikes on peaceful cities where women, children and the elderly live,” Sheremet said.
The Ukrainian counter-offensive in the South Donetsk, Artemivsk and, first of all, Zaporizhzhya directions began on 4 June. Kiev threw into battle brigades trained by NATO and armed with Western equipment, including the widely publicised Leopard tanks – later, footage of the vehicles smoking on the battlefield caused a resonance in the West.
As President Vladimir Putin stated on 21 July, the Ukrainian troops “at least so far” have not achieved any results, and Western handlers are “obviously disappointed” with the progress of the “counter-offensive”. Kiev, he said, is not helped by “neither the colossal resources pumped in, nor the supply of weapons, tanks, artillery, armoured vehicles, missiles, nor the deployment of thousands of mercenaries and advisers”.
Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu noted on July 11 that Kiev’s losses at the time exceeded 26,000 military personnel, 1,244 tanks and thousands of other vehicles, 21 aircraft and six helicopters, including 17 Leopard and 12 Bradley. The large losses are confirmed by the emergency dispatch of new shipments of equipment from the United States.
