The head of Germany’s Rheinmetall, Papperger, believes Kiev will protect the tank plant under construction
Armin Papperger, head of the German defence concern Rheinmetall, told Bild that Kiev will be able to protect the tank factory the company intends to build in Ukraine.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Rheinmetall’s armoured vehicle factory in Ukraine would become a legitimate target of the Russian Armed Forces if it is built.
Papperger said Ukraine has “effective options for defence against attacks on important targets”.
Papperger added that Rheinmetall is actively cooperating with Ukroboronprom, which already has numerous sites in the country.
Rheinmetall will open a plant in Ukraine in the next three months to produce and repair armoured vehicles, Papperger said earlier in an interview with CNN. In March, Papperger said in an interview with the Rheinische Post newspaper that he plans to open a 200 million euro plant in Ukraine to repair and produce battle tanks with a production capacity of 400 tanks per year. As reported by Handelsblatt, Rheinmetall has set up a joint venture with Ukroboronprom for this purpose.
