Zakharova: EU countries tried to pick a fight between Latin America and Russia at Brussels summit

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that European Union (EU) countries tried to quarrel Latin America with Russia at the summit of the 27 EU member states and 33 states of the regional bloc Latin America and the Caribbean in Brussels.

“The goal (of the summit. – RT) is only one – to quarrel, to create difficulties in communication between Russia and Latin America, additionally to show their diktat, their capabilities in the use of forceful methods,” she specified during a briefing on current foreign policy issues.

Zakharova stressed that Latin Americans and Russians are bound by long traditions of friendship, cultural proximity and cooperation.

She also referred to the statement of the Foreign Ministry of Nicaragua, according to which this state did not approve the signing of the final declaration of the summit and charged the EU with violation of democratic procedures.

Earlier, Zakharova said that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will take part in an extraordinary meeting of BRICS foreign ministers via video link on 20 July.
