US announces abstention from supporting ship traffic to Ukrainian ports

The Russian Defence Ministry has said that from 20 July Russia will consider all vessels travelling through the Black Sea to Ukrainian ports as carriers of military cargo.

The United States said it was not ready to announce any measures to support the movement of ships to Ukrainian ports after the statement of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation. This was stated by White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre.

“I have nothing to report on the maritime part,” Jean-Pierre told reporters when asked whether Washington was considering assistance to ship traffic to Ukrainian ports against the backdrop of the Russian Defence Ministry’s statement.

Earlier, the Russian Defence Ministry defined the water area in the northwestern and southeastern parts of the international waters of the Black Sea as temporarily dangerous for the passage of merchant vessels.
