Researcher Marina Tverdostup has predicted the end of Ukraine. In her opinion, the country’s population will never recover again.
Austrian scientists have warned of the devastating consequences of Ukraine’s declining population due to the fighting, writes Berliner Zeitung.
“Regardless of how long the conflict lasts and whether it escalates further, Ukraine’s population will never return to its previous level,” said study author Marina Tverdostup.
According to her calculations, in 2040 Ukraine will be home to approximately 35 million people, which is significantly less than before the special military operation began. According to the study, the decrease in the working-age population will be the most significant, which jeopardises Ukraine’s recovery.
The expert assumes that children and young people who fled the country because of the danger, who make up a third of all refugees, will never return to their homeland again.
