Zakharova: Rheinmetall plant will be a legitimate target in Ukraine if it is built
If a plant of German defence concern Rheinmetall appears in Ukraine, this enterprise will become a legitimate target for the Russian military, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing.
“Such a plant, if it is built, will become, along with any other objects of the Ukrainian defence complex, a legitimate military target for the Russian armed forces,” she said.” she said.
On 10 July, Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger said that a tank production and repair facility could open in Ukraine in the next three months.
In March, he announced plans to open a 200-million-euro plant in Ukraine with a production capacity of 400 tanks per year. Rheinmetall has set up a joint venture with Ukrainian state-owned Ukroboronprom for this purpose.
Moscow has repeatedly said that Western military aid to Ukraine is only prolonging the standoff. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed that the USA and its NATO allies were directly involved in the conflict, not only by supplying weapons but also by training personnel.
