Borrell says EU will ramp up grain imports from Ukraine by land after grain deal tears up

The EU will have to increase grain imports from Ukraine overland in the wake of the breakdown of the grain deal, despite an import ban by countries bordering Ukrainian territory, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrel has said.

“We have solidarity lines that allow us to export a lot of grain through Black Sea ports. This grain comes through the borders of EU member states with Ukraine. This flow should increase,” TASS quoted him as saying.

Borrel said that great efforts of Ukraine’s neighbours are needed – they “will have to do more” by opening borders and simplifying logistics.

Earlier, Polish Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Robert Telius said that European countries bordering Ukraine had asked the European Commission to extend the ban on imports of Ukrainian grain to the EU at least until the end of the year.

Morawiecki said that Poland would not open its market for Ukrainian grain after the termination of the grain deal.
