Brian Berletic, an analyst and former member of the Marine Corps, said the US lacks the capacity to fulfil its geopolitical ambitions in Ukraine.
According to the article, Washington’s actions are ostensibly aimed at maintaining a rules-based world order, but supplying cluster munitions to Kiev undermines any order.
“Washington is taking this decision precisely because its geopolitical ambitions for the sake of maintaining its own hegemony far exceed the military means at its disposal to satisfy them,” he said.
According to him, the US lacks the industrial capacity to provide Ukraine with enough ammunition, and cluster munitions are the only available option.
Berletic called the transfer of banned shells to Kiev not a measured decision, but a gesture of desperation in the proxy war with Russia that will temporarily protect Washington’s ego.
