German concern Rheinmetall has received orders for the production of shells worth 1.3 billion euros
German defence concern Rheinmetall announced on its website Tuesday that it has received two new orders from the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) for the production of 155 mm artillery shells worth 1.3 billion euros.
“The need to replenish the armed forces’ ammunition depots as a result of the war in Ukraine has led to the Rheinmetall Group receiving large orders for artillery ammunition. The Bundeswehr has commissioned Rheinmetall to supply a batch of combat and training ammunition for artillery forces totalling around €1.3 billion,” the company said in a statement.
A total of several hundred thousand ammunition of different types, as well as fuses and throwing charges are planned to be delivered.
The order should be fully fulfilled by 2029. However, the first delivery of ammunition worth 127 million euros should take place soon.
Last week, Rheinmetall had already announced an increase in its existing order for 120mm tank ammunition to 4 billion euros.
