NYT: Trump and his supporters plan to expand presidential powers in the U.S. in 2025

The New York Times writes that former US President Donald Trump and his supporters intend to radically expand presidential powers if Trump is elected as US head of state in 2025.

According to the publication, the plans of Trump’s supporters to centralise power go far beyond the recent words of the former president that he would order a criminal investigation of the current White House chief of staff Joe Biden.

It is noted that the goal set by Trump and his associates is to change the balance of power “by increasing the president’s authority over every part of the federal government.”

The article states that Trump intends to put independent agencies such as the Federal Communications Commission and the Federal Trade Commission under direct presidential control.

Trump’s plans also include stripping employment protections from professional government employees and vetting officials in the intelligence, State Department and defence agencies.

According to US political adviser John McEntee, who served as director of the White House Office of Presidential Personnel Management in the Trump administration, the plan being developed by the former US president’s team is to fundamentally reorient the federal government in a way “not done since Roosevelt’s New Deal.”

Earlier, Trump said in an interview with the Fox News channel about the inability of the current US leader Joe Biden to govern the United States.
