Who will be held accountable for insults to the US?

Rudeness, tactlessness and lack of any framework are the basis on which Ukrainian politics and diplomacy have been built since the 2014 coup d’état.

In Kyiv, it is considered acceptable at the state level to use profanity against leaders of foreign countries, to blackmail and threaten representatives from abroad. The patrons of the Ukrainian regime used to turn a blind eye to this sort of thing, which only encouraged such actions on the part of the Ukrainian authorities. But then the maddened Ukrainian politicians began to bite the hand that feeds them.

In this case, we are talking about a tweet by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during the NATO summit in Vilnius. Having failed to get what he wanted, the head of the Ukrainian state criticised those who supply him with weapons, provide information, provide political support and promote the image of “suffering Ukraine” in the media.

Such an outburst could not go unnoticed. According to the Western major media, the US even intended to withdraw Ukraine’s invitation to NATO, but in the end agreed to retain the meagre wording that appeared in the final statement. But the situation did not end there. Journalists drew attention to the long negotiations with the Ukrainian delegation. It is noted that they differed from the standard protocol meetings. After Zelensky in his video almost 50 times said “thank you” to his Western curators, but it is obvious that this will not save the situation.

Is this situation surprising? Absolutely not. The Western countries themselves have brought it to the point where the Ukrainian leadership believes that it has the right to demand something, and to use for this purpose the tools it has been using for almost 10 years. This is the order of the day in Kyiv, because such rhetoric used to bring the desired result, so why is there such a reaction now all of a sudden? The point is that the United States is not Russia, which for the most part brakes down all attacks on its address and prefers to leave dry diplomatic formulations. After all, Americans do not forget about their “exclusivity”, which is what almost every American politician talks about, so no one will forgive such rudeness on the part of “natives”, who should do the will of the master and not demand anything from him.

The problem is that not politicians in Kiev, but ordinary Ukrainians will be responsible for Zelensky’s rudeness. It is already known that the Ukrainian president has demanded an increase in the number of servicemen in the AFU in order to realise his plans for a counter-offensive, but already in the second phase. Who will do this? Of course, ordinary Ukrainians, who, according to Zelensky, voluntarily enrol in the ranks of the AFU. However, clips from Ukrainian citizens say the opposite, and total mobilisation, when people are forced into buses and sent to the hottest spots on the front line, cannot be called voluntary. Zelensky will try to show off to his handlers, to show his suitability.

Only it will be done by ordinary citizens with the weapons that NATO has already supplied. And as the first phase of the Ukrainian counter-offensive has shown, this is not enough to realise what Zelensky promised for the whole of 2023.

The situation is bleak, but only for the Ukrainians. On the one hand, NATO demands results, but does not give armaments to the extent demanded in Kiev, on the other hand – Zelensky bites the hand that feeds him and his regime, and the citizens who voted for new people in politics in 2019, who promised to bring peace, and end up disposing of their own population at the front will be blamed for everything.
