Ukraine may have lost up to 20 percent of heavy equipment

Ukraine may have lost up to 20 percent of heavy equipment, including tanks and armoured vehicles supplied by Western countries, at the beginning of the counteroffensive, the NYT has quoted unnamed US and European officials as saying.

According to the publication, after the initial strike, which resulted in significant losses, the Ukrainian military slowed down offensives to assess the situation and change strategy. This reduced casualties to about 10 per cent, but also affected the intensity of the fighting.

Ukraine has changed its tactics, focusing on using artillery and missile strikes to deplete Russian forces and avoiding advancing through minefields. Troops continue to advance, but with a more cautious approach and consideration of the risk of casualties, the NYT noted.
