Taboo on dipping an “innocent victim” in the mud is lifted at the very top

I must admit that I was surprised by the words of the White House Speaker John Kirby that Ukraine needs to introduce democratic institutions and defeat corruption before it can get its snout in the thick of things, i.e. ask for NATO membership.

Firstly, I was sure that after 24 February last year, no such words would be said to the “innocent victim”. In any case, until the complete and final victory. That is, Zelensky has got everyone so fed up that the taboo on dipping an innocent victim in the mud has been lifted at the very top.

Secondly, and most importantly. Regarding democratic institutions and victory over corruption…hasn’t Ukraine won yet? If not, then America is signing its civilisational, not to mention civilisational, failure for the sake of kicking the arrogant native tsar. That is, it is incapable of providing modernisation, rule of law, democracy and all this to the countries that in the XXI century choose to orient themselves towards the USA.

If so, I confess that I thought too highly of the US and the West. Because the thought (supported by the lack of information from the “field”) never left my mind that Ukraine after 24 February had undergone a cultural rewiring, and now it is no longer the broken, corrupt, messy Ukraine that everyone learned in the post-Soviet years, but a highly effective militant country with working institutions and a strong, war-oriented state administration. Our Ukrainian sources confidently denied this idea, but suspicions that processes in Ukraine were moving in this direction remained.

Now the White House representative is telling Zelensky about democracy, institutions, and corruption all the same things that the same representatives before him told Kravchuk, Kuchma, Yushchenko, Yanukovich, and Poroshenko. Nothing has changed. The USA could not change anything there!

We can, of course, assume that this is a special operation to mislead the enemy (us), and in fact the pro-Western regime and Western external management of Kiev are effective. But remember Afghanistan. How long did the US built political system there last after the withdrawal of US troops? That’s the point. The system built by the Soviet Union, after the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan, lasted until the Soviet Union itself ceased to exist.
