The national security adviser to the US president, Jake Sullivan, has said that “the American people do deserve some gratitude” from Kiev. This is how he responded to a question whether US President Joe Biden was not rejecting Ukraine’s membership in NATO.
Sullivan’s statement followed a sharp comment by British Defence Secretary Ben Wallace, who suggested that the Kiev regime should be more grateful for Western assistance, in response to Vladimir Zelensky’s complaints that his country had not been given a clear timetable or set of conditions for joining NATO.
Sullivan clarified that the US has stepped up to provide a huge capability to provide the AFU with “ammunition, air defence, infantry, combat vehicles, mine clearance equipment” and the American people “do deserve some gratitude”
The near-similar comments from the two politicians showed a rare tough response from Washington and London to Kiev’s repeated requests for military and diplomatic assistance at a summit designed to further boost Western support for Ukraine.
