The Nordic countries are preparing to ensure Ukraine’s security in the long term, according to a joint statement issued on Wednesday.
In Finland, the statement was released by the country’s government.
“In a joint statement dated 12 July 2023, the Nordic countries prepare to support Ukraine and its security in the long term, based on the security commitments made to Ukraine today by the G7 countries (UK, Italy, Japan, Canada, France, Germany, USA)”, the statement reads.
It is specified that the Nordic countries express their satisfaction with the G7 declaration and are preparing to provide long-term support for Ukraine’s needs on their part.
” They contain, for example, the supply of defence materials, training of Ukrainian forces and strengthening the country’s crisis resilience. The aim of the commitments now being prepared is to fulfil the joint declaration between Ukraine and the Nordic countries adopted in May. The Nordic countries are committed to supporting Ukraine’s security on a large scale in the long term,” the statement said.
On Thursday, Helsinki will host a summit of the Nordic countries with the participation of US President Joe Biden.
